Tangier

Where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic

Tangier

Tangier is a seaport and coastal city which for centuries was the gateway to Africa from Europe. Located on the Maghreb coast at the western entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar, where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Berber Souks [bargain for that special treasure to take home]
  • Museums of Antiquities and Moroccan Art — Dar-el-Makhzen
  • Take a private Tangier tour
  • NOT to be missed – a day trip from Tangier to Chefchaouen!

Dar el-Makhzen

Located atop of the highest point in the city, is the former Sultan’s Palace (Dar el-Makhzen) overlooking Tangier’s Medina from behind its 17th century stone walls.

It is an elegant and ornate building. Inside you’ll find two independent museums: The Museum of Antiquities and the Museum of Moroccan Arts.

The Museum of Moroccan Art has a wonderful collection of handcrafted goods whilst the Museum of Antiquities has an array of ancient objects and antiquities from all around Morocco with items dating from prehistoric times to the medieval ages.

The former palace is also situated in beautiful grounds and you will be impressed with the stunning interior courtyard, beautifully enameled in glazed earthenware.

The Medina

Wander through the Medina to get a feel for life in the city – both past and present-day.

Your guide can take you to an authentic Berber Souk (local market) and help you bargain for something special to take home.

Chefchaouen

Known for it’s dramatic shades of blue, you’ve likely seen photos, but it’s a whole other experience in person.

Chefchaouen is also a popular shopping destination as it offers native handicrafts that are not available elsewhere in Morocco, such as wool garments and woven blankets.
